Heat Pumps
Heat Pumps offer alternative to solar water heaters
Heat pumps consume less electricity that normal water heaters - Savings of about 75% in energy; and can be installed by everyone - even by families with no access to roofs. A family can save approximately about 600 units of energy per year. These heat pumps facilitate the heating of water using captured heat from the air regardless of temperature and weather.
A heat pump consists of an indoor stainless steel tank with an integrated high efficiency compressor and an outdoor anodised aluminium panel which works 24 hours a day and water is guaranteed no matter of the weather or temperature.
The Malta Government is offering a 400 euro subsidy to families who install a new heat pump system for use instead of a normal water heat (geyser).
